Joan Carter - Visual Art and Drama in Worship
B.A. in fine arts, University of Washington; M.A., San Francisco Theological Seminary; Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union, she has done extensive research on Giotto's paintings in the Arena Chapel in Padua, Italy and their connection to Medieval Liturgical Drama and has had arts and liturgy articles published in Faith and Form, Hand of the Deep, Lectionary Homiletics, and Ministry and Liturgy as well as chapters in Post Modern Worship and the upcoming Space for Faiths. Her paintings appear in numerous corporate, institutional and private collections and she currently serves as Dean of Olivet University’s College of Art and Design where she teaches art history. Formerly a pastor at the Sausalito Presbyterian Church, she has provided churches with a model for incorporating the arts into the life and worship of a congregation.
